Dust mites are part of the Arachanid family, like spiders

Dust mites are microscopic organisms that feed on dead skin that we slough off. Therefore, the majority of their food source can be found in beds, carpet, upholstered furniture and stuffed animals.
Here are some general tips you can use to decrease your exposure to dust mites
- Encase mattresses, pillows and box springs in allergen-proof coverings
- Wash bedding sheets on the hot cycle once a week
- Regularly vacuum and reduce household clutter
- Change air conditioner filters on a regular basis
- Shampoo hair daily
- Favorite stuffed animal should be washed on a weekly basis in hot water
- Putting a stuff animal in the freezer in an alternative to weekly washing
